Meeting
Date: Tuesday, 3 May, 2o11
Time: 7:00 - 9:00 pm
Place: New
Mexico Museum of Natural History in Albuquerque
Program: NMMS Vice President Bruce Trigg will show part of Taylor
Lockwood's Mushroom
Identification Trilogy. The entire program runs about an hour, and
Bruce plans for us to watch only half of it at this meeting. So come
prepared
to enjoy Taylor's Mushroom Identification Sesquilogy.
Last
Month
Thank You to Barbara Hays for hosting last month's
meeting and the
remainder of this year's upcoming Santa Fe meetings at her community
Clubhouse. These meetings occur on Sunday afternoons, and the next
gathering will be on July 17th (and yes, it will be a potluck). This is the
3rd year Barbara has offered us a comfortable and convenient meeting place
in Santa Fe, providing a venue which facilitates participation in club
activities for our northern New Mexico members.
Thanks also to NMMS Past-President Mark Kalin, who
presented Common NM Gilled Mushrooms - Helpful Recognition Features.
Mark spoke on this topic at Albuquerque meetings during 2010 and was eager
to share the program with more of our members.
Taylor Lockwood Calendars - Price Reduced
We still have some of Taylor Lockwood's 2011 Calendars for sale ($14.50
List). The club has already slashed the price and offered them for $5 each
during the last 2 meetings. Come to the May 3rd meeting and expect a
bargain on the remaining copies.

NMMS 2o11 Foray
The NMMS Foray Committee has determined a date and place for this
year's Foray. Those who have been eager to return to Red River will be
happy to know that this year offers that chance. The Foray will occur on
the last weekend of August, from Thursday (pm) the 25th through Sunday (am)
the 28th. The Foray Committee hopes to make additional details available
soon.
Additional details will be available at mycowest.org.
Chiricahua Foray
Each year some NMMS member (or members) insist that we should visit the
Chiricahua Mountains in SE Arizona. This year NAMA (the North American Mycological
Association) has heeded your requests. NAMA will hold a Southwest
Regional Foray at the Southwest
Research Station during Labor Day Weekend.
From NAMA's description: "Recognized as the authority on Southwestern
fungi, Dr. Jack States will serve as mycologist for this new regional
foray." Jack States is a good friend to NMMS, and has served as our own
Foray Mycologist in years past.

NAMA's Website (look for "Southwest Regional Foray").
NAMA Annual Foray
NMMS had a good turnout for the last year's NAMA Foray in Winter Park,
Colorado. Those who would like to visit different habitats or would like to
get a head start on this year's season would do well to consider this
year's NAMA Foray in Pennsylvania (Aug 4-7). Foray planners describe the
area as "exceptional for both its volume of mushrooms and the
diversity."
