  • The Annual Foray is NMMS' big scientific and social event. Morning field trips focus on proper collection of fleshy fungi (mushrooms). Afternoons and evenings include study and identification of the day's specimens. Our Foray Mycologist provided additional instruction and assistance with learning the area's mycoflora.
  • In 2o14 NMMS returned to Las Vegas for this event. We met at the Historic Plaza Hotel, where we also held Forays for 1996 & 2oo7.

    Foray Mycologist

  • Clark Ovrebo - Professor of Biology, University of Central Oklahoma. Clark has been a contributing mycologist for several NMMS Forays, including last year's gathering in Pagosa Springs. Clark serves as Scientific Advisor for the Gulf States Mycological Society, and is a regular contributor to other clubs' Forays, including serving last year as Foray Mycologist for the NAMA Foray in Arkansas.

    • Foray Fee:

  • The fee of $110 per person covered 4 meals (Friday and Saturday Lunch & Dinner) and Foray costs.
  • Breakfasts were included with Room Rental at the Plaza Hotel (and not included in the Foray Fee). Those Not staying at the Hotel could purchase breakfast for an additional cost.
  • Participants were responsible for reserving their own lodging (see Registration Form or Lodging info below). Field Trips
  • The Foray Committee planned destinations and recruited volunteer leaders for Friday's Field Trips, but participants were to either provide transportation to and from Field Trip sites, or if riding in another participant's vehicle, be prepared to share transportation costs with that driver.

    Who May Attend NMMS Forays: 

  • NMMS welcomes participation from current members of the North American Mycological Association and its affiliated organizations. NAMA-affiliates include (but are not limited to) 4cmc, AzMC, CMS, GSMS, PPMS, and of course NMMS.
  • Non-members (of NAMA or a NAMA-affiliate) were encouraged to consider joining NMMS or NAMA.
  • Non-members could attend by paying an additional $10 fee, which covered NMMS membership for the remainder of 2o14.
  • Delinquent NMMS Members were asked to pay their annual $20 dues.

    Lodging Information

  • Headquarters for the 2o14 Foray was the Historic Plaza Hotel in Las Vegas. Foray Participants received a discounted room rate at the Plaza.
  • The Plaza quoted us the following nightly room rates. Prices did not include tax.

  • Due to space limitations, we limited this event to 50 participants. (However, we ended up being provide a much larger facility--the Ballroom--than we had expected.) As of July 20th, we reached (actually exceeded) that limit and closed Registration for the Foray.
