NMMS News - September 1998
Ruth Bronson suggested conducting identification classes for members,
focusing each class on particular family of mushrooms. Improving members'
ID skills would be of particular benefit at the annual Forays, where
sorting and labeling creates a noticeable bottleneck at the collection
tables. The ability of participants to include more accurate information
on field slips would allow our Foray Mycologist(s) to focus on
identification of the more difficult species. Those at the meeting greeted
Ruth's proposal enthusiastically. We have not scheduled such classes yet,
but after a bit more discussion it is probable that we will begin early
next year.
During the discussion Roslyn Block suggested that at the beginning of
future Forays, we hold a Prep Session during which we provide instruction
for tagging and delivering specimens to the collection area. Doris added
that we need greater focus on organization of the ID room.
