New Mexico Mycological Society - May 2000

May Meeting
  • Tuesday, May 2nd, 7:30pm at the Natural History Museum Annex
(east across 18th St from the main Museum bldg)
  • I will be bringing a slide projector and empty carousel to the meeting. I propose for the program that members bring around 10 slides which show mushrooms, or folks caught in the act of mushrooming. I suggest that those bringing slides mark them somehow to facilitate returning them to the proper owners. If, at this meeting, we decide that we don't have enough slides to warrant calling it a program, we will try again next month, and I will show a video instead. The one I have in mind is Jozseph Schultz' crazy mushroom chef film that we watched a year ago.

    Voting Results
At the meeting on Apr 4th, we concluded the vote on whether to retain Full Affiliation with NAMA or to change to "partial" Affiliation. 2/3 of those voting preferred to change. This means that those now joining NMMS or those who have yet to renew for 2000 will pay $10 dues for NMMS membership and have the option of joining the North American Mycological Association (NAMA) for an additional $32, to be paid concurrently with the NMMS dues. The NMMS Board will meet to discuss a dues increase, but the $10 amount stated above is valid until the Board determines otherwise.

    Field Trips
We held our first Field Trip on Saturday, April 8th, during which we visited the Cañoncito, Cole, and Tree Springs areas on the east side of the Sandias. Mushrooms were scarce, but the weather was great and we had some nice hiking. The specimen of note was Peggy Gorresen's obligatory annual find of an Auriscalpium vulgare, growing, of course, out of a small spruce cone.
I have not heard from Sharon yet about the success of her Field Trip in Italy, so this is all the field trip news for now. Remember to check, if you can, the Field Trips page on our Website: http://www.swcp.com/mycowest/members/ft00.htm.

    Annual Foray
I had hoped to have some news by now concerning this year's Foray. So far I have nothing to report. I will get the word out as soon as there is one. I will also post information for the Foray (as soon as I have it) on our Website: http://www.swcp.com/mycowest/foray. (The page currently at that address is the flyer for last year's Foray.)

    Other Forays
Below is basic information on some other Forays which might interest some members. Included are links to Webpages providing more information. Upon member's request, I will mail printed details for these events (contact David Wallis).
